Certifications
Many companies pose as ‘green’ or eco-friendly retailers but, in fact, do not offer any eco-certified products. Matilda-House is currently sourcing certified eco-friendly linen from all around the world. To make sure your product is genuinely eco-certified, look for the following labels:
• GOTS
• OEKO-TEX
• ISO 140001
The Global Organic Cotton Standard (GOTS) outlines the processing and manufacturing standards a product must qualify to be labelled eco-friendly. This certification also ensures the ecological and social benchmarks have been reached throughout the entire supply chain.
OEKO-TEX standards set the guidelines as to what a product may be used for and also gauges the effect the production of the product has had on the environment. Standard 100 ensures the product is safe to use and standard 1000 means that the product has been certified as eco-friendly.
ISO 140001 stipulates a set of environmental management requirements for environmental management systems. The purpose of this standard is to assist all types of organizations in protecting the environment, prevent pollution, and in doing so, improve their environmental performance.
