Organic Cotton

Organic cotton is naturally softer than conventional cotton. This is because of the eco-friendly farming and manufacturing process it goes through. Minimal chemicals are used in the production of organic cotton whereas conventional cotton uses 10 per cent of the world‘s pesticides and almost 25 per cent of the world‘s insecticides in areas covering 3% of the world’s farmlands. This has devastating effects on the environment, as the soil is contaminated with nickel, lead, formaldehyde, amines, pesticides and heavy metals. Organic cotton is also hypoallergenic, so those who have sensitive skin and sufferers of skin diseases such as eczema and psoriasis will find organic cotton more suited to their needs. Although it can be more expensive, organic farming practices have a lower carbon footprint as the process does not require that much fuel or energy and emits considerably less greenhouse gases. Organic cotton farming is also safer for farm workers due to the lack of chemicals used in this stage of production. The chemicals used in the farming of conventional cotton infect and kill at least 20,000 people every year.
